Clinics available at Wellington square medical centre
The Centre currently provides a number of clinics, described below:
ANTE-NATAL & POST-NATAL CLINICS - ALL clinics are held in conjunction with the
community midwife.
CHILD HEALTH CLINICS - Run by health visitors for advice on all aspects of child care,
and to weigh babies and toddlers.
CHILD SURVEILLANCE CLINICS - Developmental assessments including having tests run
by health visitors. Attendance by appointment only.
WELL WOMAN/WELL PERSON CLINICS - Run by each of the doctor's practice nurses
for general health checks.
FAMILY PLANNING - All forms of family planning, including fitting of lUCDs and caps
are offered by consultation during normal surgery hours.
CERVICAL SMEARS - Cervical smear invitiation intervals will be 3 yearly between the
ages of 25-49 and 5 yearly between the ages of 50-64. Cervical smear tests are carried
out during normal surgery hours, usually by the practice nurse, as this is more convenient
for patients. However, please inform the receptionist if you are making an appointment for
a smear test, so that a lengthier consultation is allowed for.
DIABETIC CLINIC - Clinics are run for our diabetic patients. In addition to monitoring
diabetic control, other services are on offer such as the loan of diabetic recipe books.
ASTHMA CLINICS - Anyone taking inhalers for chest conditions should attend these
clinics, at least once a year for review.
HYPERTENSION (HIGH-BLOOD PRESSURE) CLINIC- Patients who have a high bloodpressure
which has been found to be adequately controlled by their doctor may be
transferred to the hypertensive clinic run by the nurse for further follow-up.
CHIROPODY/FOOTCARE CLINICS - Clinics run by a qualified chiropodist are held at
Wellington Square.
PHYSIOTHERAPY CLINICS - Clinics run by a qualified physiotherapist are held at
Wellington Square.
DIETARY/NUTRITION CLINICS - Clinics run by a dietitian are held at Wellington
Square.
HEART DISEASE PREVENTION CLINICS - Screening for heart risk factors, cholesterol etc.
COUNSELLING - is available at the centre through referral by your GP.
Referral for all the clinics above are made via your doctor.
